The Forest and Society Research Group (FSRG) Team of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University (Unhas) attended the “Building Bridges for Community-Centered Climate Security” workshop organized by the East West Center. The activity took place starting at 09.00 WITA in Chiang Mai Thailand, Thursday (7/9/2023).
Chief in Editor of the Forest and Society Research Group, Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. forests. Muhammad Alif KS., S.Hut., M.Sc. with the team, namely, Dr. Ir. Siti Halimah Larekeng, S.P., M.P., Nurhady Sirimorok, Karno B. Batiran, Muchlas Darmawan and Pamula Mita Andary accepted an invitation from the East West Center to attend the workshop “Building Bridges for Community-Centered Climate Security” through funding from The Rockefeller Foundation.
Several countries that participated in this activity were Cambodia, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Indonesia and Thailand (host).
Through an interview Thursday (14/9) Dr. Ir. Halimah Larekeng, S.P., M.P. explained that in this activity representatives from several countries were also present and we carried out various activities aimed at telling and discussing the issue of climate change in their respective countries.
“On this occasion, we, together with workshop participants who were representatives from several countries, also made field visits to reservoirs and discussed with the local government which handles water management, interacted with local residents and played sustainability games,” explained Dr. Halima.
Dr. Halimah said that through this activity, she and the FSRG Team of the Faculty of Forestry, Hasanuddin University, discussed with several countries regarding collective action plans to document the climate crisis issue in their respective countries.
This activity was carried out for 4 days from 4 to 7 September 2023 and went smoothly and was followed up by action in Indonesia which will be discussed in India next year.
